Driver or 3 Wood
Pick a fairway-wide target on the range and alternate driver and 3 wood off the tee. Tap Left, Fairway or Right for each, and see which club keeps more drives in play and what the carry costs.
Free in your browser. Also on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

WHY IT WORKS
The problem, and the fix
On a tight hole most golfers guess: driver because it’s longer, or 3 wood because it feels safer. Neither is a decision until you know how often each one finds the fairway.
The goal: Know, from your own numbers, how many more fairways the 3 wood finds and how many yards it costs, so the tee-shot call is easy.
You hit driver into the trees on the holes where the 3 wood would have been in play, or give up 25 yards for no gain in accuracy.
How it works
Five steps from opening the drill to your first logged result.
- 1Pick two markers on the range about a fairway apart (30 to 35 yards wide at your carry): a flag and a sign, or two yardage boards.
- 2The clubs alternate, driver first. Tee one ball, go through your full routine and hit it.
- 3Tap where it finished: Left, Fairway or Right (as you see it from the tee). Then the other club.
- 4Set each club’s usual carry in Settings for the yards the 3 wood gives up, or turn on Record carry to log each ball’s carry on a slider. Your call appears after 5 balls with each club.
- 5Hands-free: say “fairway”, “left” or “right”. Also “repeat”, “skip”, “undo”, “finish” or “hands-free off”.
SEE IT IN ACTION
On iPad, iPhone and the web
Driver or 3 Wood looks the same everywhere: in your browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and in the iPhone and iPad app.

Coaching tips
No fixed length — 20 to 30 balls is a good session. Finish whenever you like: a session saves itself from the first reps.
Hit 100 tee shots in Driver or 3 Wood. Every badge is a coin on the drill’s Progress page.
No phone? Print the practice sheet. Count the Fairway rows for each club. The club with more fairways is your tight-hole club; the 3 wood gives up about the gap between your two carries.
Questions
What do I need?
Driver + 3 wood + tees, any range with a fairway-wide target.
How long is a session?
No fixed length — 20 to 30 balls is a good session.
How do I score it on the practice sheet?
Count the Fairway rows for each club. The club with more fairways is your tight-hole club; the 3 wood gives up about the gap between your two carries.
Which badges can I earn?
6: First session, 100 tee shots, 500 tee shots, 5 fairways in a row, Fairway finder and Both clubs in play. Each one lights up on the drill’s Progress page.
Can I use it hands-free?
Yes. Turn on Hands-free in the drill and say each result out loud, and “undo” or “finish”. It works in browsers with speech recognition, such as Chrome and Safari, and in the iPhone and iPad app. You can always tap instead.
Do I need an account?
No. Practice as a guest and your sessions stay on that device. Sign in with Apple, Google or email to keep them in your account, on the web and in the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app.
