APPROACH · KNOW YOUR NUMBERS
Club Fitting
A wizard that finds your stock full-swing carry for every club in your bag, so you know which club to hit from any distance.
Free in your browser. Also on iPhone and iPad.

WHY IT WORKS
The problem, and the fix
Most golfers know their 7 iron and guess at the rest, so the clubs either side of it come up short or fly the green, and the gaps in the bag stay hidden. Without a carry for every club, every club choice is a guess.
The goal: Build a table of full-swing carries, one per club, each from enough balls to trust.
It works like a launch monitor’s bag mapping: one full swing per club, walked shortest club first, moving on as soon as a club’s carries agree.
How it works
From picking your clubs to a carry for your whole bag.
- 1Start a session and pick the clubs to fit: a full bag from sand wedge to driver is picked to start, with lob wedge, 3 and 4 iron, 3 and 5 hybrid and 7 wood on offer, or add your own, like 2 iron.
- 2If you’ve fitted some before, choose to fill in only what’s missing, refresh them all (old carries stay until each new one is measured) or start new (the old ones are cleared now).
- 3Walk through your bag, shortest club first. Hit one ball, full swing, with the club on screen, set the carry to your launch monitor’s or rangefinder’s number on the slider or keypad, and tap Log carry.
- 4The carry starts at a cautious estimate, then at your last ball’s carry. After at least 3 balls the club moves on once its carries agree, or after 10 balls, keeping your best guess.
- 5Stop whenever you like: the clubs you’ve done are saved, and next time you can carry on with the rest.
SEE IT IN ACTION
On iPad, iPhone and the web
Club Fitting looks the same everywhere: in your browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and in the iPhone and iPad app. On a wide screen it uses two columns, so the buttons stay in reach.

Your bag itself is the picture: each club’s tile turns from red to green as you dial it in, and the one you’re on is outlined. Tap any club to jump to it.

YOUR BAG
Watch it fill in
Your bag sits at the top of the screen as a tile for each club, three to a row. Each shows your average and its likely range in yards, turning from red to green as it gets closer to done.
Tap any club to go to it, or Next club to come back to one later. If you’ve fitted before, these are your three choices before you start.
Settings
Signed in, your settings follow you to your other devices.
4 to 15 balls for each club, 10 to start. At the most, the club is kept as a best guess. A session keeps the number it started with.
Loose, Normal or Tight: how closely the carries must agree before a club counts as dialed in. On Normal, about ±4 yards, or 8% of the carry on longer clubs.
Deletes every Club Fitting session so your bag starts empty; your clubs and settings stay. Settings also has Keep the screen awake and Discard session.
Progress and badges
Your bag is built from every session you’ve saved, and its history is its own, apart from the Wedge Matrix’s.
Under the insight box, every ball is a dot in the order you hit it, with a bell curve on its side, the mean as a dashed line and the band where most shots land. Under it: mean, range and balls kept.
Progress shows a carry for every club: ✓ dialed in, with the day, or ± a best guess. Each session has its own page, ball by ball.
First club, 100 balls, Full bag (9 or more clubs in one session) and All dialed in (every club dialed in, none a best guess, in a session of 6 or more).
Coaching tips
Fit your clubs once you’re loose. Early balls often creep longer as you warm up, and the carry spread graph shows it.
Log every ball. Only a ball that’s plainly a chunk, a thin or a top, far from all the rest, is left out on its own, and it shows as a red ring on the graph.
Once your bag is filled in, check the yards between clubs. A big gap or two clubs that go the same distance is worth knowing before your next round.
SOUND AND HANDS-FREE
Keep your hands on the club
With Sound on, the app says just the club (“7 iron.”). Spoken cues are off to start: turn them on in Profile, or with the drill’s Sound button for one session. Turn on Hands-free and say the carry instead of typing it. Things you can say:
Works in browsers with speech recognition, such as Chrome and Safari, and in the iPhone app. You can always use the slider or keypad instead.
Questions
Do I need a launch monitor?
A launch monitor or a rangefinder: you type or say the carry each ball flew.
Why does the carry start low?
The first guesses are a higher handicap’s (a 130-yard 7 iron, a 205-yard driver) and the estimate leans short, so the slider starts low and climbs to your numbers as you hit.
Is it the same as the Wedge Matrix?
It works the same way, with one full swing per club instead of three swings per wedge, and it keeps its own history.
Is it on the Apple Watch?
No. Club Fitting runs in your browser and on iPhone and iPad, with the same bag when you sign in.
